ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – Ahmad of Madagascar pulled off a stunning upset on Thursday, ousting Issa Hayatou, the long-serving president of the Confederation of African Football, in an election at the organisation’s congress in Ethiopia.

Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad have been given a special state reception by the country’s president Paul Biya.

Cameroon came from behind to beat Egypt 2-1 and seal a fifth Africa Cup of Nations in a thrilling, edgy final. Substitute Vincent Aboubakar swept in the winner two minutes from time, flicking the ball over defender Ali Gabr and thumping it home.

Cameroon coach Hugo Broos hailed the esprit de corps within the squad after his side beat favourites Ghana to advance to the final against Egypt. Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui stabbed in the first midway through the second half following a mix up between Ghana goalkeeper Razak Brimah and defender John Boye.

Gabon hosts the rest of the continent’s football populace for the African Cup of Nations starting Saturday January 14. After a successful draw in October 2016, time is getting close for the show proper. The competition kicks off on January 14 and ends on February 5, 2017.

The Zimbabwe national team failed to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday morning as a stand-off over finances worsened.
